"Massive bruising on the head, and then her little fingers were lacerated, toes," said Detective Lindell Wright who was the first officer on the scene.

I got this quote from an news article about a girl that has been abused so much that it leads to death. In the quote it says that she has massive bruising to the head and her fingers and toes were lacerated meaning they were mangled and massively torn. This pertains to my topic because this could give you an image of what really goes on inside a house hold and what kinds of physical abuse really occurs.

Wordle
In my wordle I chose many words that relate to my topic. My topic is Physical child abuse, and I am looking to help lower it. I used the words I chose to summarize what physical child abuse is. As seen below I used words such as neglect and unjustice because abuse is not necessary to punish the child. I used neglect to relate because the parents are showing neglect by taking frustrations out on their children and beating them.

In this photo there is a stop sign with abuse written on it.It means help stop abuse because there are at least 4 children dieing everyday because of abuse and every 13 seconds a child is being abused. Currently Kentucky has the highest child abuse rate. South Carolina ranks 46th in the nation for child abuse. So stop child abuse now so we may lessen the amount of child abuse.

In this picture there is someone holding a belt and the child is in the corner scared of whats about to happen. This relates to my topic because I believe that if your child does something wrong there is a way you can punish them without beating them.If this was you im sure you wouldnt want to be beaten. Im sure grown ups say children arent beaten nearly as much as they should unlike how they were beaten back when they were growing up. Children before were beaten badly but you shouldnt treat your child the way you were treated because if that was the case then you shouldnt have had a child anyway. People who think they may hurt their child if they have one should reconsider things. Also if you do not have a stable home for the child and food give them to a foster home or other options.

I chose this photo because when you look at some children you can see that something may be wrong in there lives. When you see a child that has been abused they tend to look like they may be scared or in pure fear. Child abuse mentally effects the child. Adults dont take into consideration that physically abusing their child could cause lots of damage. This relates to my topic because it is saying that the kids are in fear and we should not let the parents or anyone else hurt them any longer. In the photo there is a picture of an eye and some text saying cant you see they are scared which means just basically do something about whats going on

In this photo there is a little boy crying because he is neglected and not shown any attention. Child abuse is a serious issue in the U.S. and more and more cases pop up everyday. In this picture the boy is all alone and only has his teddy bear and I think maybe it means kids that abused think they have no one to turn to and all they have is a stuffed animal for a good memory. This picture relates to my topic because my main topic is about physical child abuse and how we can stop it.

What I would like to know about my topic......
I do not know a lot about my topic overall however I would like to know why so many people can get away with child abuse. I would also like to know why people would turn to child abuse when they are frustrated or angry. Do most parents abuse their child when they are younger or older as in there teenage years? Is child abuse really targeted to all races or is it one main race? Why would someone beat their own child rather than taking it out on someone who is not their family? Is there more cases known in the United States rather than another country? I would like to know how many cases have been reported over the last five years, and how many of them were babies verses teens? Finally, I would like to find out how many cases resulted in death?

What I Already Know About My Topic....
I don’t know a lot about my topic however I know some important things. I know that there are more and more cases being reported everyday. The most targeted are teens and babies because they can not defend themselves like adults. Child abuse is not directed to one race it is all races, black, white, etc. The top three causes of physical abuse are prejudice, shame, and anxiety. Girls and guys are both mistreated but girls are better known for being abused. I know that abuse can be done physically, mentally, socially, and emotionally. I have learned in the past that people who are less fortunate are the ones who are more likely to be abused.
The Story Behind My Topic…
One day my friend Caitlin Housand came into our AVID class and had a debate to work on. I was talking to her and she was researching child abuse cases and this interested me because the amount of adults that abuse children is tremendously high. Then suddenly she came upon a case that was heart wrenching to me because it was so sad. The article was named “The Short Life and Brutal Death of Brianna Lopez.” Even the title was sad and I wanted to know more about the case so I researched it. The story was many pages long and very descriptive and detailed. Long story short, the girls uncle and dad raped and beat her, along with her own mother. The story states that poor Brianna was bruised head to toe. Her uncle and dad were outrageously drunk while Brianna’s mom was said to have been asleep in the next room while all of the horrible things took place but, was later found out to be a lie and in fact her mom had beaten, pinched, and threw her repeatedly. Brianna was threw against the ceiling repeatedly, raped time and time again, had bite marks all the way down her body, skull fractures, etc. the list goes on and on. All the family knew of the abuse that had been taking place and refused to say anything at all. After committing this crime the uncle and dad were only sentenced a maximum of eighteen years to prison at first and after hearing petition after petition was changed. Brianna was beaten so bad that her casket was not able to opened at her viewing. There was never even a picture taken of poor Brianna which meant the only picture they ever had was the one taken at the morgue. This whole case goes on page after page and brings sadness every time I read it. After reading this case many times it has influenced me in changing the amount of child abuse cases reported. I think if I can reach out to some people and talk to people maybe it would help. There are many more cases that were horrible but this one was said to be the worst reported case known in Mexico . Brianna was only five months old when she was killed, and born on Valentines Day. Many people after reading this are in tears and now in place is a bill in her honor. This story is what influenced me to choose this topic. This story can be seen at the site located at the bottom of this page.
